2020 Golf Outing

Monday, October 5, 2020

This year Friends of Marty will be hosting it’s 19th Annual Golf Outing on Monday, October 5th at Black Bear Golf Club in Franklin, NJ.

The first half of the year was a challenging one for all of us, and running Friends of Marty was no exception. Due to COVID-19, we had to cancel both of our Spring fundraising efforts ~ the First Pitch Outing, done in coordination with Morris Catholic High School, and our BBQ social normally held in early summer. Historically, both events have significantly aided our efforts in funding scholarships awarded to deserving Morris Catholic High School and Saint Peter’s University students. In order to regain momentum and meet our goals we have two plans in the works. One is an on-line fundraiser or 50/50. The other is our golf outing!

We have every intention of hosting our 19th annual golf outing at Black Bear Golf Club in Franklin, NJ. We will closely monitor the conditions and evaluate any risks on a regular basis. For now, we are optimistic and have moved the date ahead a few weeks in hopes of better weather and a stronger turnout!

We anticipate some differences from prior years. Below is what the course has provided regarding steps taken to keep us all safe:

What to Expect at the Course?
Golf carts may be driven on fairways.
Driving ranges are open at this time.
Water coolers, ball washers and bunker rakes have been removed from the golf courses.
Rental clubs will be available.

Important Rules that Golfers Must Follow:
Maintain 6′ distance from other golfers and course employees at all times.
Do not play through other groups, and do not congregate at tee boxes.
Do not touch flag sticks, boundary markers, benches or any other fixtures.
Do not share clubs or touch another golfer’s equipment.
If you do not feel well, stay home.

Anyone not following these rules may be asked to leave the golf course.

A virtual check-in option will be available in the days leading up to the outing. We ask that you take advantage of this option to keep close contact to a minimum.

In addition, we have confirmed that there will be a shotgun start, and no more than 2 people are allowed in each cart. The luncheon has been moved outside, under a tent, and will include a buffet with staff to serve the food. Table set up will follow the appropriate social distancing guidelines – no more than 8ppl per table with 6′ between tables. Currently, there is no need for masks to be worn during lunch.

We will follow all guidelines set forth by the CDC and will be sending out additional information over the coming weeks. We will also continue to work closely with Crystal Springs to ensure that safety is the top priority.

With Gratitude,
The Friends of Marty Team

*Proceeds raised at this event will continue to support the scholarship programs at Morris Catholic High School and St. Peter’s University. As always, we look forward to seeing you all at the event for a day of fun and remembrance.
